Crossways goal is to help transform the lives of convicted felons, their children and their families throughout the criminal justice system. The urgent public mission of enhancing America 's civil society through the gospel requires a fresh definition of compassion and responsibility, one that focuses on the consoling hand and word of someone who "suffers with" and who invests himself or herself into the lives others. This is Crossways commitment. Crossways' volunteers are committed to seeing Christ formed in the lives of new believers within the prisons and also once they are released to the community.

Praying

Crossways servants and Life Coaches help demonstrate God's love and hope and share His blessings by helping transform the lives of men and women in their walk to freedom. Crossways' strategy is to nurture relationships with prison inmates through an extensive Bible-based Responsible Living Curriculum, fellowship, counseling, mentoring, and correspondence. Crossways' goal is to disciple the inmate, meet him/her at the gate, and continue the relationship while they are reintroduced to society. The relationship prior to an inmate's release provides the staff and volunteers a clear idea of the prisoner's needs and actual commitment to Christ. Our vision is that every committed prisoner is met at the gate by a restorative team and that these teams help each former prisoner validate his faith through a season of successful transition and reintegration into the community. To the candidates Crossways offer assistance with jobs, access to affordable approved housing, community compliance, post-prison discipleship, and connections to local churches. This is articulated in a contract, which holds each candidate and Crossways accountable to each other for one year after the candidate's release. This year is the most crucial in a former prisoner's life and so vigilance is a requirement on both sides for a successful transition. Faith fuels our work and supplies our staff with wisdom and ability, our donors with the resources they share, and enables our recipients to work toward the fulfillment of their dreams.

Government can do some things, but it cannot reach deep into the human character. Only God changes the heart. Our worst social pathologies (e.g., illegitimacy, crime, poverty) can be solved if people experience spiritual transformation; if the hearts of parents are turned toward their children; if respect is restored for human life and property; if a commitment is renewed to care about our neighbor and our community.

Men and women behind bars are making decisions for Christ. They have been told they belong to a new family, a new community of believers, the household of God. They desire to put together a new life that was never together in the first place to become contributing members of that new community. They need a place to worship, work, and grow. This is the only way the complete transformation God desires to do in them is possible. They must be nurtured in prison, met at the gate, and given an opportunity to practice new values in community. This is real ministry; this is the body of Christ in action. Hebrews 13:3.
